What the Reddit status covers

Reddit reports two groups, reddit.com (the site and apps) and ads.reddit.com (the advertising platform), plus its infrastructure and media storage.

The official page is redditstatus.com. Everything on this page is read from its public API and shown as declared, with the provider's own wording in incident titles and updates.

Reddit not working for you, but no incident shown?

  1. If images and video fail to load while posts and comments appear, the problem is in media storage or delivery rather than in the site as a whole.
  2. The "you broke Reddit" or 503 pages during peak hours can come and go within minutes without a declared incident.
  3. Third-party apps and bots depend on the Reddit API and on their own rate limits; an error there is not always a Reddit outage.
  4. Wait a few minutes and look again. Status pages are updated by people and usually trail the start of a problem.
  5. Test from another network, such as a phone hotspot. If it works there, the cause is on your connection, VPN or DNS.

Questions and answers

Is Reddit down right now?

The answer at the top of this page is the state Reddit declares on redditstatus.com, re-read every 9 minutes. It is loaded when the page opens, so it is not written into this text. If the page shows "No data", open redditstatus.com directly.

Where does this Reddit status come from?

From the public status API of https://www.redditstatus.com, the official status page maintained by Reddit. This site does not test Reddit itself and does not use reports from users.

Reddit is not working for me, but this page says there is no incident. Why?

Reddit may not have declared the problem yet, since status pages are updated by people and usually lag by some minutes. The problem can also be limited to one region or feature, or be on your own network or account. The checks listed on this page help to tell these cases apart.

Does Reddit declare every short outage?

No status page does. Reddit publishes relatively few incidents, as the 90-day strip on this page shows. Short error bursts may never be declared, which is why this page says "no incident reported" rather than "Reddit is up".

How long do Reddit incidents last?

It varies by incident. The list of recent incidents on this page shows the declared start and resolution of each one, and the 90-day strip shows on which days Reddit declared a problem.
