What npm says on its own status page, status.npmjs.org. If that page stops answering, we say "No data" instead of guessing.

What the npm status covers

npm reports the npmjs.com website, package installation, package publishing, package search, security audit and the replication feed as separate components.

The official page is status.npmjs.org. Everything on this page is read from its public API and shown as declared, with the provider's own wording in incident titles and updates.

npm not working for you, but no incident shown?

  1. Run "npm config get registry". If it points to a company mirror or proxy, an install failure may come from that mirror and not from the public registry.
  2. Installation and publishing are separate components. You can be unable to publish a new version while installs keep working for everyone.
  3. A checksum or integrity error on one package is usually a local cache problem; "npm cache verify" is the first thing to try.
  4. Wait a few minutes and look again. Status pages are updated by people and usually trail the start of a problem.
  5. Test from another network, such as a phone hotspot. If it works there, the cause is on your connection, VPN or DNS.

Want to follow npm without opening this page? There is a status badge and an RSS feed for it, and you can pin it so the browser tab icon follows its state.

Questions and answers

Is npm down right now?

The answer at the top of this page is the state npm declares on status.npmjs.org, re-read every 9 minutes. It is loaded when the page opens, so it is not written into this text. If the page shows "No data", open status.npmjs.org directly.

Where does this npm status come from?

From the public status API of https://status.npmjs.org, the official status page maintained by npm. This site does not test npm itself and does not use reports from users.

npm is not working for me, but this page says there is no incident. Why?

npm may not have declared the problem yet, since status pages are updated by people and usually lag by some minutes. The problem can also be limited to one region or feature, or be on your own network or account. The checks listed on this page help to tell these cases apart.

Does the npm status page cover yarn and pnpm installs?

Those clients download from the same public registry by default, so an incident in the "Package installation" component affects them too. Mirrors and private registries are not covered by the npm status page.

How long do npm incidents last?

It varies by incident. The list of recent incidents on this page shows the declared start and resolution of each one, and the 90-day strip shows on which days npm declared a problem.
